Topics that should be included:

Anti-Poaching Efforts:

  1. Does your government have a set budget for anti-poaching? What is that budget? What was the amount allocated for each of the past three (3) years?
  2. Can you itemize the source of those dollars? (For example, $100,000 or 30% is directly from hunting license sales.)
  3. How many people, patrols or units are employed by your government-funded anti-poaching efforts? (If in patrols or units, how many people does each represent?)
  4. How are anti-poaching efforts funded in your country?
  5. What percentage of hunting revenue goes into anti-poaching?
  6. Are government funds supplemented by the private sector?
  7. Are there private groups operating anti-poaching units independent of the government?

Photo-tourism / Non-hunting Ecotourism:

  1. What is the total revenue that photo-tourism/non-hunting ecotourism generates each year?
  2. Do any funds from photo-tourism or ecotourism activities aid your anti-poaching efforts? If so, how are these fund distributed?
  3. How many people participate in photo-tourism/non-hunting ecotourism in your country each year?
  4. How much land area is used for photo-tourism?
  5. Of the land areas available, are these areas already set aside as national parks or protected areas?
  6. What environmental impacts has your government observed from photo-tourism/non-hunting ecotourism activities? (For example, is there more pollution or habitat fragmentation?)
  7. (ATTENDING COUNTRIES: Botswana, Cameroon, Congo-Brassiville, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe).
