An emergency summit on the illegal ivory trade will take place in Botswana from December 2 in an urgent attempt to halt the slaughter of Africa’s elephants. On average, an elephant is killed every 15 minutes, writes Don Pinnock for the Cape Times.
The summit will be attended by heads of state, senior officials and NGOs who will attempt to secure commitments from African states to take urgent measures along the ivory chain as well as from consumer states in Asia.
